Daniel John Siira was born October 3, 1959 in Alexandria, Minnesota, the son of Wesley and Alice (Scott) Siira. Daniel grew up on the family farm in rural Brandon. He attended school at Barrett, Evansville, and graduated from high school in Alexandria.
Daniel participated in work programs through the Douglas County Developmental Achievement Center for over 30 years. He worked for many years at Burger King and at Hardee's. Daniel also worked on the family farm caring for chickens and helping with livestock chores. Daniel took his work seriously; you could not ask for a more loyal or reliable employee.
In 2014, Daniel moved to the Prairiewood home in Alexandria. When visiting Daniel, he was always very proud to show you his room, which he called his "office".
Daniel was a very loyal Minnesota Vikings, Twins and Gophers fan. “Win- Lose, Good Sport!" was his motto. Daniel also enjoyed spending time riding bicycle, playing with the cats and dogs on the farm, and summer fishing. He enjoyed participation in Track and Field and Golf at the Special Olympics. Daniel also loved bowling and playing the harmonica. Daniel’s choice of movies and TV shows was based on his love of people, animals, music, sports, and his sense of humor. He especially liked watching Lawrence Welk, Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom, The Apple Dumpling Gang, and of course, his favorite sports teams. Daniel loved chocolate chip cookies and was skilled at finding out where they might be hidden. Patriotism was also something Daniel found important; he always stood at attention when he heard the Star Spangled Banner, even while milking cows. Daniel was a good brother and uncle. Daniel liked the song "Jesus Loves Me" and had a childlike faith, often saying, "God knows!”
On Friday, January 4, 2019, Daniel died at the age of fifty-nine years. His father, Wesley Siira, preceded him in death. Daniel is survived by his mother, Alice Siira of Evansville; siblings Bill Siira and wife Cathy of Brandon, Susan Westrom and husband Lyle of Crookston, Sally Siira of Blaine, Thomas Siira and wife Marcia of Alexandria, Jeffrey Siira and wife Sheri of Battle Lake; nieces and nephews Andrew (Emily) Siira, Jessica (Kevin) Rankl, Jennifer (Mike) Young, Karen (Mark) Erickson, Ryan (Sarah) Westrom, Tracy Westrom, Robby Westrom, Katy (Bjorn) Horgen, Sarah (Tim) Erickson, Mack Wadi, Alicia Siira, Jake Siira, Jonathon (Victoria) Siira, Matthew Siira, Adam Siira, Aniya Siira, Ethan Siira, Miriam Siira and Evan Siira; several aunts, cousins, great nieces and great nephews.
