Daniel “Sam” Charles Olson was born on November 4, 1960 in Alexandria, Minnesota. He graduated from Evansville High School and then completed the professional truck driver program at the Alexandria Technical College. On October 3, 1981, Sam married Lori Holte, at Faith Lutheran Church in Evansville. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Heather and Erica.
Sam worked most of his life in the cement business, doing curb/gutter and cement truck driving. He also farmed part-time in rural Evansville. Even as a child, Sam loved to tinker and fix things. This continued into his adulthood as he always had a project in the works. The whole family would do ice racing with the cars that he fixed up. He was the Dad that made sure his “girls” had motorcycles, snowmobiles and go-carts to ride and play with. Sam enjoyed his family and got a twinkle in his eye when his grandkids came into the room. They would describe him as goofy, as he did whatever was needed to make them smile or giggle. Sam had a unique sense of humor and was such a jokester. His quick-witted comments and one-liners kept people guessing as to if he was serious or pulling your leg. Sam always made people laugh. His spirit and humor will be missed.
Sam died on Friday, November 10, 2017 at his home in rural Evansville. He is survived by his wife, Lori; daughters, Heather and Josh Thoennes, Erica and Ryan White; grandkids, Talan, Tanner and Joslyn Thoennes and Dezmond, Carter and Jorja White; mother, Nelda Olson; siblings,Nancy and Ron Miller, Roland and Linda Olson, Bonnie Olson, Lorraine and Jerry Kram, Jennifer and Gordy Shaw; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Clinton Olson and brother, Douglas Olson.
