Darold Plaster

Darold Theodore Plaster was born on January 7, 1926 in Waterloo, Iowa to Ted and Elda (Diekow) Plaster. He was baptized on January 24, 1926 in Waterloo, Iowa in the Lutheran faith. The family moved to Brandon, MN when he was two years old. He attended Brandon High School and graduated in 1944. Darold was united in marriage to Rita Simons on November 26, 1949 at St. Mary?s Basilica in Minneapolis. He was baptized into the Catholic faith on November 24, 1954 at the Church of Ascension in Minneapolis. The couple was blessed with four children; Suzanne, James, John and Mary Beth. In February 2013, Darold moved to Bethany Home and Rita followed to Bethel Manor. As a teenager he helped his Dad on the Dray line delivering coal and hauling material to help build the Brandon water tower; which, was torn down in the summer of 2011. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January of 1944 and left right after graduating high school. Darold was on the U.S.S. Cullman 78, carrying troops from the Philippine Islands to Japan. He was honorably discharged in June of 1946. Darold went to Dunwoody School in Minneapolis in June of 1947 and graduated with an auto mechanics degree. Darold worked 34 years at Brinks armor car in Minneapolis. He traveled over the road for 13 years with the company after the couple moved back to his home town of Brandon in June of 1971. Darold worked for his son, John, on his garbage route for five years. He also worked at the Brandon School as a janitor. Darold was a member of St. Ann?s Catholic Church in Brandon as well as the American Legion Post 278 for 70 years. He enjoyed managing the girls softball teams; which, he did for 13 years. He also ran the softball league for a time and took care of the ball fields. Darold also enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, and hunting ducks and deer. Darold died on Friday, October 4, 2013 at Bethany Home in Alexandria at the age of 87. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Rita; children, Suzanne of Maple Grove, James (Jolene) of Alexandria, John (Deb) of Evansville and Mary Beth (Dewayne) Prasnicki of Rice; grandchildren, Jillian Plaster, Jessica (Mike) Skogberg, Tyler Prasnicki, Cody Prasnicki, and Shannon Prasnicki; step-grandchildren, Lynette (Justin) Perreault and LeAnn (Joe) Reznicek; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Dakotah Skogberg; step-great-grandchildren, Iris and Lyla Perreault, Willow and Harrison Reznicek; brother, Dean (Ruth) Plaster of Brandon; sisters-in-law, Adeline Sharrett of Minneapolis, Mary Ellen (Roger) Kloeckl of Gaylord, Delores Ricki of Richmond; brother-in-law, Dan (Patti) Simon of Glencoe; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Darold is preceded in death by his brother, Virgil Plaster, granddaughter, Cheyenne Olivia Prasnicki; and brothers-in-law, James Simon and Arnold Ricki. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at St. Ann?s Catholic Church in Brandon with Reverend Father Matthew Crane officiating. Music was provided by organist, Bob Piotroski and soloist, Bernie Thoennes. Interment was in St. Ann?s Catholic Church Cemetery in Brandon. Military Honors were provided by Brandon American Legion Post 278 and the Minnesota National Honor Guard. Casket bearers were Darold?s grandchildren, Jillian Plaster, Jessica Skogberg, Tyler Prasnicki, Cody Prasnicki, Shannon Prasnicki, Lynette Perreault, and LeAnn Reznicek. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
