David Allen McCay, 68, died Thursday, July 5th, 2012, at his home in Alexandria MN surrounded by family. Visitation will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church, Sunday from 5 to 8 pm with a memorial service on Monday at 11am. David was born May 2, 1944 in Bismarck, ND to Paul and Mamie McCay and raised on the family farm near Moffit graduating from Hazelton High School in 1962. David attended Valley City State College, joined the ND Army National and later completed his degree at UND. He married his high school sweetheart, Roberta Olson and they were blessed with a son Michael in 1970, and daughter Sara in 1974. David taught business education in Lakota and Grafton ND before working for Gaffaney?s Office Supply in Grand Forks, ND and Crookston, MN. In 1986 the family moved to Alexandria MN, where he was employed by Farm Credit Services in agricultural real estate sales. Later, David started working with Paulson Land Company of Battle Lake, MN in real estate sales and appraisal. David loved his work as it connected him to so many people. David?s last wish was to have his brother, sister, son, daughter, daughter-in law and three precious granddaughters gather at their home for a final reunion. He often referred to the people of his life as his true ?treasures? and knew they would follow him into his eternal life. David?s exemplary life will be remembered and celebrated by his wife of 45 years, Roberta (Olson) McCay, his children, Michael (Lisa) Eagan MN and Sara (Serge Zotov) Houston TX, granddaughters Meeghan, Molly, and Mara McCay, of Eagan MN, brother Charles (Gwen) Bismarck ND, sister Georgine Harrington of Carrollton TX, brother-in-law Russell Olson (Sharon) Fargo ND. He will be missed by many nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, and cousins. Many friends and co-workers will also remember David as a person of integrity, honesty, and patience. All who knew him were made aware of his loyalty as well as his wonderful sense of humor accompanied by a twinkle in his eye. David was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mamie McCay, sister, Darlene Mehrer, brother in law Bill Harrington, and nephew Kyle McCay. In lieu of floral gifts, the family requests memorials be made either to the Douglas County Hospice or the Lakes area Humane Society of Alexandria.
