On November 22, 1958, he was united in marriage to Sydney Prestwood, his longtime high school sweetheart and best friend. The couple owned and operated a restaurant/bar in Hanover, Minnesota. They moved to Alexandria in 1975 when they purchased the South Dairy Queen. They owned and operated the Dairy Queen for 25 years. Their next business venture was building and operating two convenience stores outside of the Alexandria area. The couple continued to reside in Alexandria. Dave was a man with many and varied interests. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson, for many years making trips to the rally in Sturgis. He was a car enthusiast, enjoyed four-wheeling, camping and loved to travel. Dave and his three sons enjoyed many years of pheasant hunting trips to Chamberlain, SD, leading to a special bond throughout their lives.
