David John Mike, age 71, of Fergus Falls, MN, died peacefully at Arlington Home on September 26, 2013 under the care of Lakeland Hospice of Fergus Falls. David was born on September 26, 1942 in Starbuck, MN, the son of Willmar and Esther (Heikkinen) Mike of the Holmes City area. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Moe Township. In 1945, David moved from the farm when he was almost three years old and went to live at the State Hospital in Faribault, MN. He then moved to the State Hospital in Cambridge, MN in 1963. In 1973, David moved to the Regional Treatment Center in Fergus Falls and in 1995 moved to the Carlos MSOCS where he thrived in a loving group home environment and at Production Alternatives in Parkers Prairie, MN. In 2010, he moved to Arlington Home in Fergus Falls where he again thrived in the loving care of his dedicated and compassionate caregivers at home and at Productive Alternatives (Willows). David enjoyed listening to music, eating, soft fuzzy blankets, ice cream at the Dairy Queen, family events, parades, Viking's games on TV, going "to work" at Productive Alternatives, and many outings in the community. David is survived by brothers, Donald of Alexandria and Bruce (Donna) of New London, W; sisters, Bertha (Fred) Weaver of Mansfield, TX, Enid (Gerald) Krueger of Clintonville, WI, Betty Mike of Alexandria and Diana (Dave) Torkildson of Lake Park, MN;. eleven nieces and nephews and seventeen great nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and his dedicated, compassionate caregivers. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Quentin, Allen, Charlie and Earl Mike and sister, Judy Dietz. A funeral service will be held 11 AM Monday, September 30, 2013 at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church in Moe Township. Reverend Robert Brueske will officiate. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church.
