David Tolifson

November 14, 1940 — September 2, 2011

David Lee Tolifson son of Leslie and Deloris (Polzin) Tolifson was born on November 14, 1940 at home in Holloway during the Armistice Day blizzard. In his younger years he loved riding his horse ?Silver? at the farm in Appleton, which his mother even made him leather saddle bags. David attended school in Morris. The family moved to a farm near Norcross where he helped farm. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served during the Cold War in Germany. On May 28, 1966 David was united in marriage to Janice Lesmeister at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Herman. The couple lived a short time in Herman. At that time he raced stock car - #8. David and Janice were blessed with two children, Christopher and Melissa. David worked for his brother, Ronnie driving truck for Herman Transfer. In 1977, the family moved to Alexandria where David worked a wide variety of jobs from sales, carpentry, starting his own business ?Tully?s Sportswear? and his favorite job working at Atikwa Golf Course at Arrowwood Resort as a groundskeeper. David enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting (ducks and pheasants), refinishing antiques, and golfing. In later years he enjoyed spending time in his garage, which was equipped with two tv?s for watching sports and the race. The garage was where his friends and siblings would stop for a visit and also where the grandchildren loved to be with him. David died on Friday, September 2, 2011 at his home in Alexandria at the age of 70. He is survived by his wife, Janice of Alexandria; son, Chris Tolifson of Jamestown, ND; daughter, Missy (Andy) Volkmann of Sauk Centre; grandchildren, Samantha, Koral and Reid Tolifson and Madison, Maia and Gabrielle Volkmann; siblings, Arlan (Vicki) Tolifson, Ronnie (Janice) Tolifson, Gary (Patty) Tolifson, Randy (Janice) Tolifson, Rick Tolifson, Susie (Charlie) Lone, Danny (Karen) Tolifson, and Debbie (Larry) Robertson; and many nieces and nephews. David is preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Deloris Tolifson; infant brother, Marlin; nephews, Steve and Galen Tolifson; and great nephews, Mitchell Kleindl. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Alexandria with Father Steve Binsfeld officiating. Inurnment was held at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery in Herman. Military Honors were provided by the Alexandria American Legion Post 87, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 936 and the Minnesota National Honor Guard. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
