Dean Rasmussen was born June 20, 1945 in Montevideo, MN, the son of Oscar and Erna (Maas) Rasmussen. He was raised in Robbinsdale, MN where he graduated from Robbinsdale High School.
On January 2, 1965 Dean was united in marriage to Linda Nelson. He joined the United States Marine Corp and served in Viet Nam. Following his duty in Viet Nam he served further at Camp Lejeune where Linda joined him. Dean was discharged from the service to 1966 and began working for Recognition Equipment where he installed some of the first Automatic Teller Machines in the country. His work took him and his family to Dallas, Louisville, Santa Ana and Kansas City, MO.
Dean brought his family back to Minnesota where he attended Hennepin Technical College and studied computers. He also took courses in computers offered by Control Data. Dean went to work for Comten, which was later purchased by NCR, in the Twin Cities where he worked as a computer systems test manager. He worked there for seventeen years. After leaving NCR he formed a partnership and created Direct Batteries. Three years later he moved to Miltona, MN where he was semi-retired. Dean worked part-time for Ace Hardware and OfficeMax.
Dean was very proud of his service to his country and to the Marine Corps. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Crystal, MN.
Dean could build, fix or remodel anything. He volunteered as the maintenance person for Miltona Bay Estates. He had a great sense of humor and was great with one-liners. Having fun with the neighbors was something Dean looked forward to. He loved the outdoors and liked to golf with his daughter, play horseshoes, fish and go deer hunting. Trips to Canada for fishing and camping with his son and friends were special. Dean and Linda traveled several times to Arizona during the winter.
On Monday, May 18, 2015 Dean died at the age of sixty-nine years. He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Rasmussen; and one brother, Jim Rasmussen.
