Delores Betterman

Delores Ruth Betterman was born on October 19, 1926 to Walter and Anna (Brueske) Froemming at home in Leaf Valley Township, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Leaf Valley. She attended country school till the 8th grade and then attended and graduated from Central High School in Alexandria in 1944. Her first job was a bookkeeper at Keger’s Feed Store in Alexandria and various other places thereafter. Delores was united in marriage to Werner Betterman in 1946 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Garfield, MN. To this union two children were born, Sharon and Bruce Betterman. The family moved from Garfield to Silver Bay and then Brooklyn Center, MN. Delores worked for the Osseo School District in food service for 19 years. The couple retired to their lake home near Aitkin, MN in 1981. Werner passed away in 1996, and a couple of years later Delores moved to Alexandria, MN.

Delores enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and dancing in her free time. Her greatest joys in life were her faith in God, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Delores died on Monday, January 25, 2021 at the age of 94 in Alexandria, MN.  She is survived by her two children: Sharon Betterman and Bruce (Patricia) Betterman; one granddaughter: Leslie (Devan) Spinelli; 6 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Evelyn Gease and JoAnn Westerman.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Werner; parents: Walter and Anna; grandson: Bret Betterman; and two brothers-in-law: Earl Gease and Donald Westerman.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church.  This service will be live-streamed and recorded for family and friends to view from Delores’ obituary page on the Anderson Funeral Home website at 2:00 PM on Saturday. Burial was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
