Delores Dagmar Davidson was born on October 30, 1918 to David and Dagmar Davidson. She grew up on a farm in Evansville, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Evansville. Delores attended rural school district 26 for 8 years and graduated in 1936 from Evansville High School. In 1936 Delores went to Minneapolis where she attended Miller Vocational, receiving a business degree.
On August 9, 1941, Delores married Harold Smith of Minneapolis. They had a son Curtis and a daughter Cheryl. In 1948, Delores and Harold started farming for the next 20 years. While Harold was farming, Delores was working for the Douglas County Welfare Department. They then retired from farming and moved to Prescott, Arizona where they managed a motel. They later moved back to Minneapolis and Delores worked for the Control Data Corporation, then Delores retired and moved back to Brandon in 1980. While living in Brandon, Harold passed away in 1999. Delores continued to live in her home and enjoyed being involved in church activities, senior center activities, and tending to her flower garden. Delores loved nature and being outdoors, which is why she chose to live at Windmill Ponds. Delores chose an apartment with windows where she could see nature. She lived there for 18 years.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, son-in-law Roger Alstead, and her husband Harold.
Delores is survived by her son Curt (Nancy) Smith, daughter Cheryl (Jim) Augdahl of Alexandria; 7 grandchildren, Jeff Smith, Darin Smith, Lisa Smith, Katrina (Jeremy) Peterson, Crystal Smith, Holly (Mike) McMahon, and Becky Alstead; 9 great grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren; as well as 1 niece and 1 nephew.
Delores passed away March 20, 2024 at Windmill Ponds in Alexandria, Minnesota. Memorial service is located at Anderson Funeral Home Chapel and is at 11:00 with a visitation from 10-11. Burial will be at Mound Grove Cemetery in Evansville, Minnesota.
