Deloris Landeen

February 16, 1924 — January 22, 2018

Deloris Elaine Drexler was born February 16, 1924 in Belle River, MN, the daughter of Joseph and Susan (Beheng) Drexler. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Nicholas Church in Belle River.  Deloris attended school at rural District 26 and District 39. She graduated from Central High School in Alexandria in 1942.

She began work in the spirit of Rosie the Riveter during World War II; Deloris worked as an aircraft mechanic at Northwest Airport. She modified warplanes, primarily working on the B-24 bomber. Later she moved to Forest Park, IL where Deloris worked at a defense plant.

On August 22, 1944 Deloris was united in marriage to Marvin Landeen at St. Nicholas Church in Belle River. The couple made their home in Watsonville, CA while Marvin completed his service in the armed forces. Following the war, Marvin and Deloris moved to Carlos, MN where they became longtime residents.

Deloris worked for the First State Bank of Carlos and the Carlos Creamery as a bookkeeper.  She also did some waitressing for a local café.  For eighteen years Deloris worked at the Carlos State Park before retiring in 1985.

Deloris enjoyed playing cards and reading. She liked to sew, crochet and do craftwork. Deloris did canning and loved traveling with her niece, Sharon. Mostly Deloris loved to spend time at the lake cabin with friends and family; it is what made her happiest.

Deloris was active at St. Nicholas Church where she has been a lifelong member. She was a member of the Christian Mothers and the Red Hat Ladies of Carlos and Miltona. Deloris also volunteered her time to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies’ Auxiliary and the Carlos Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary.

On Monday, January 22, 2018 Deloris died at the age of ninety-three years.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Landeen; one infant son; sisters, Eleanor Scafidi and Rosella Feda; and brothers, Harvey Drexler and Delbert Drexler. Deloris is survived by her children,  Randy Landeen of North Branch, MN, Gale Landeen of Alexandria and Roxanne Rueter and husband, Jerry, of Alexandria; grandchildren, Kim Taveirne and husband, Jason, Michael Rueter and Ashley Landeen; great grandchildren, Callie Taveirne and Aleyna Taveirne; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
