Dennis Conrad, 89, of Alexandria, MN, formally of Sleepy Eye, MN, died peacefully, with his two daughters by his side, at Bethany Community Home in Alexandria, MN, on Monday, January 23, 2017.
Dennis was born on June 30, 1927, in Eagle Bend, MN. He was the oldest child of Emery and Matie Conrad. Dennis grew up in Bixby, MN and graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1945. He then attended telegraph school in Jamestown, ND. While working at the railroad depot in Rochester, MN, he picked up the nickname, "Red," which stayed with him the rest of his life. He married Evelyn Naylor on August 1, 1953. Together, they had four children. They moved to Sleepy Eye, MN, in 1962 and then moved to Hemet, CA in 1987 where they lived for 20 years. In 2007, they returned to Minnesota and made their home in Alexandria.
Dennis worked his entire career as a railroad depot agent and telegrapher for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He was liked by everyone who knew him. He could always make you laugh with his witty one-liner remarks. Dennis was very proud of his wife's accomplishments, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was very devoted to his family.
Dennis is survived by his three children: Laurie (Neal) Hunter of Alexandria, MN; Susie (Lyle) Braun of Alexandria, MN; and Tom (Melissa) Conrad of New Palestine, IN. Seven grandchildren: Ken (Denise) Holm, John (Fatima) Holm, Jeff (Elise) Braun, Kristin (Nick) Brassell, James Conrad, Andrea (Peter) Pyer, and Steven Conrad. Three great-grandchildren: Carter, Rayna, and Taylin Holm.
Dennis is also survived by his three siblings, Dean Conrad of Bloomington, MN; Charlotte Burgeson of Prescott, WI; and Patti (Edwin) Schmidt of Stillwater, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Daniel in 2013, and his wife of 62 years, Evelyn, in 2016.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at 1:30 PM with visitation one hour prior to the service at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria, MN. www.andersonfuneral.net
