Donald “Don” Carlson was born on April 12, 1933, in Bertha, Minnesota, one of five children born to Mauritz and Violet (Chambers) Carlson. He graduated from Parkers Prairie High School in 1953, he then served his country in the United States Navy for four years.
On August 23, 1958 Don was united in marriage to Donna McFarlane at the First Baptist Church in Alexandria. To this union four children were born. The couple raised their family on a farm just outside of Parkers Prairie. Throughout his life Don farmed and sold insurance. He also was a clerk and mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and was an active member of the First Baptist Church for 57 years. After retiring Don enjoyed being a volunteer driver for many years.
Don loved playing games of all kinds and really enjoyed being the game leader for the church AWANA program. He also enjoyed fishing, spending time with family and friends and especially attending the sporting and musical events of his grandchildren.
Don went to be with his Lord on Sunday February 8, 2015 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna; sons, Darby (Sandy) of St. Michael, Douglas (Cynthia) of Walker; daughters, Denise (Greg) Hadley of Alexandria, Debbie (Randy) Paulson of Monticello; eleven grandchildren, Shaylee, Dane, Bryton, Jeremy, Zach, A.J., Andrew, Austen, Ahnalee, Amanda, Dillon; two great grandchildren, Brody & Dakota. Brothers, David (Marlene) Carlson of Alexandria, VA, Dan (Carol) Carlson of Champlin and many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by two sisters, Beverly (Paul) Semrau and Carla (Robert) Gjengdahl.
Celebration of Don’s life and home going will be held on Saturday February 14, 2015, at 1:00PM at the First Baptist Church of Parkers Prairie with visitation one hour prior. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
