Donald Washington Dvorsak was born February 22, 1926 in Lake Mary Township, MN, the son of Frank and Mary (Bosek) Dvorsak. Donald grew up in Lake Mary Township where he attended country school. He continued high school in Alexandria, MN. Following school Don helped his parents on the family farm. He also played saxophone in the Harvey Rajdl Band.
On November 5, 1946 Don was united in marriage to Marie Kalina at St. Mary’s church in Alexandria. Following their marriage they purchased the family farm from Don’s parents. Don ran the dairy farm and raised livestock until 1985. He also worked as a carpenter for Richard Hvezda building many homes in the area. In 1964, the last house he built, he resided in until 2009. Following his retirement he continued working as an insurance salesman. He also assisted Bob Benesh with fieldwork and driving.
Don enjoyed the outdoors; he liked deer and duck hunting and also fished in summer and winter. In his retirement, Don kept a very large a garden and several apple trees. He liked to share his produce with friends and family. Don also liked playing whist and other cards games; he was usually pretty lucky with cards. Don was a lifelong member of the Church of St. John Nepomuk in Reno Township.
On Thursday, August 11, 2017 Don died at the age of ninety-one years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Dvorsak; one daughter, Dorothy Holder; two brothers, Raymond and Robert Dvorsak; and two sisters, Eleanor Chermak and Magdalene Trousil. Don is survived by his daughters, Judy Dvorsak (David McLain), Lonnie Hanson (David Kludt) and Patti Larson (Jerry Nelson), all of Alexandria; grandchildren, Bonnie Holder, Trisha Christensen, Joshua Hanson, Jordan Hanson, Jenna Hill, Anthony Larson, Jessica Larson and Dylan Nelson; eleven great grandchildren; son-in-law, Larry Holder of Eagle Bend, MN; and sister-in-law, Jane Dvorsak, of Alexandria.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM Friday, August 18, 2016 at the Church of St. John Nepomuk in Reno Township. Reverend Father Peter Kirchner will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Thursday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with parish prayers beginning at a7 PM. Additional visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM Friday at the church.
