Donald Engebretson

Donald Christian Engebretson passed away at home on September 11, 2016. He was 84 years of age. Don was born on December 18, 1931 in Kensington Minnesota to Agnes and Christian Engebretson. They moved to Alexandria where Don Graduated from Central High School in 1953. He was in the National Guard during the Korean Conflict stationed in Alabama.

Upon returning home he resumed working in the grocery business which was his life long career. Donny started working in the grocery business at Red Owl while still in high school, then later he worked at IGA which became Super Valu, ultimately retiring from Donny's Warehouse Foods of Long Prairie.

Don married Darlene Oberg in 1953. They raised three children: Steven Engebretson of Alexandria, Susan Engebretson of Hayden, Idaho and Sharon Dronen (deceased). Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling in his younger years and golf throughout his life. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene and his daughter Sharon. He is survived by his son Steven (Kathy) Engebretson, his daughter Susan Engebretson (Scott Carlson) and grandchildren Ryan Engebretson ( Paula), Kevin Engebretson, Sarah Engebretson and Alexa Dronen.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, September 24,, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.
