Donald Morris Fernow was born on January 19, 1930, in Enderlin, North Dakota the son of Arthur and Alma (Johnson) Fernow. Don and his six brothers and sister grew up in Enderlin and were a close family. Don met Dorothy Jordet who also lived in Enderlin and they were married on July 22, 1951. After their marriage Don served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army. He was on the front line running communication line for the troops. He was Honorably Discharged on June 4, 1953.
After returning home he worked as a carpenter for several years and in the late 1960’s the Fernow family moved to Alexandria where Don worked for Bellanca Aircraft making airplane wings. He enjoyed taking his sons deer hunting and never missed the opportunity to go with the boys.
Don will be remembered as a humble man who could fix anything and was a perfectionist at it. He was always willing to help neighbors and friends. He had a wonderful sense of family and loved his grandchildren.
Donald died on Monday, March 21, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy; children: Debra (Rick) Hansen of Brainerd, Steven (Kathy) of Alexandria, Rick (Julie) of Alexandria; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, brother, Dennis of Los Angeles; sister, Marge Hendersen of Enderlin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Harvey, Lawrence, Russell, Dale.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, March 26, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Burial was at Kinkead Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church Building Fund. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
