Donald Neil Kaar was born June 14, 1944 in St. Paul, MN, the son of Wilfred and Eva (Feist) Kaar. He was raised in St. Paul and graduated from Ramsey High School. Following school Don joined the United States Navy. He served in Korea and Viet Nam. Donald also served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. Following his discharge Don returned to Minnesota.
On June 12, 1965 Don was united in marriage to Kathleen Docherty. The couple made their home in Downey, CA for one year before returning to St. Paul. Don worked as a forklift driver for over thirty years with the Onan Electric Company. Don retired from Onan's and worked part-time as a rural mail carrier.
In 2012 Don and his family moved to Brandon, MN to be closer to family. In St. Paul, Don was an active member of the Church of St. Bernard. Don enjoyed driving tractors and really loved going for a ride on his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle.
On Wednesday, January 25, 2017 Don died at the age of seventy-two years. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Karen Kaar Olivarez; and three sisters, Carol Griefnow, Pat Kallstrom and Betty Gallis. Don is survived by his wife, Kathleen of Brandon; son, Daniel Kaar of Brandon; and daughter, Cheri Peterson of Brandon; two grandson, Dusty Kaar and Kyle Olivarez; and one brother, Dewey Kaar and wife, Kathy, of Belle Chasse, LA.
A funeral service will be held 11:30 AM, Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, MN. Reverend Father Peter VanderWeyst will officiate. Interment will follow in the Brandon Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
