Donald Myers

Donald was born on April 7, 1937, in St. Paul, the son of Raymond and Dorothy (Seewald) Myers. Don served his country in the U.S. Army from August of 1957~ September of 1959. After returning from serving his country he worked for the stockyards. Don was united in marriage to Gloria Rahn on January 6, 1962, at Concordia Lutheran Church in South St. Paul. The couple resided in rural St. Paul after their marriage. Don furthered his education receiving his Degree in Welding. He worked out of Local 647 in Ramsey as a boilermaker. In 1969, the Myers had a son, Jim and in 1970, the family moved to the Osakis area where they bought Smith Lake Resort. They ran the resort until 1975. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, scuba diving, and biking. He also loved the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren: Dan, Jay, Jessika & Mat. Donald died on Sunday, February 15, 2009, at the Douglas Co. Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; son, Jim of Alexandria; four grandchildren: Dan, Jay, Jessika, Mat of Franklin, TN; two sisters: Diane Pavlak of Eagan, MN, Sandra & husband, Dennis Tuccitto of Inver Grove Heights; in-laws: Maynard & wife, Eldoris Ohm of Rosemont, MN, Devon Jackson of White Bear Lake, MN, Rev. Robert & wife, Donna Rahn of Macomb, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held on Monday, February 23, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Rev. Wade Meyer officiating. Pallbearers were Jack Reed, George Fluey, Dennis Tuccitto, Jeff Reed, Jessie Zeeman, Danny Jackson. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria.
