Donald Person Sr

Donald Nels Person Sr. age 82 of Kensington, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2016 surrounded by his family at his home. A memorial service will take place at the Anderson Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 2:00 PM, with the Reverend Ben Jacobson Presiding. A visitation will take place for two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria. Donald Nels Person was born on January 28, 1934 one of seven children born to Carl and Matilda Person of Lowry, Minnesota. Donald attended school in Glenwood, leaving high school early to join the Unites States Air Force. While in the Air Force, Donald trained as an airplane mechanic and was stationed in Texas, Arizona, Nebraska and England. He completed his high school diploma while in the Air Force and also was given the nickname "Peaches", one that he would keep for the rest of his life. After serving for four years he was honorably discharged from the Air Force. In 1958 Donald married Arlene Hanson, also a Lowry native that he had known since he was a child. The couple was blessed with two children, Brenda and Donald Jr.

Donald worked for thirty-seven years as an airplane mechanic with Northwest Airlines. Even when the company went on strike, Donald found work so that he could continue to provide for his family. After retiring the couple moved to Kensington to a hobby farm. Donald raised animals and worked at making the farm a get away and playground for his children and grandchildren where they also learned about hard work and "getting the job done". Donald also worked in retirement for a hog farmer.

A simple but fulfilling life Donald lived. He enjoyed hunting deer and turkey, tending his animals and always was tinkering on something. He will be remembered as a man who was a good role model and teacher. Donald was a hardworking, sweet man, who will be dearly missed by his family.

Surrounded by his family, Donald went to meet his Lord and Savior on Friday, September 30, 2016, at the age of eighty-two. He is survived by his wife, Arlene; children, Brenda (Al) Nelson, Donald Person Jr.; grandchildren, Adam (Rebecca) Nelson, Kevin (Xan) Nelson and Cyndi Person; great grandchildren, Alexandra Nelson, and Tanner and Elliot Nelson; sisters, Marvel Olson, Audrey Olson and Betty (Arnie) Gunness. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Ordella Person, Clayton Person and Shirley Neumann.

A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, MN, with a visitation taking place the two hours prior to the service. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
