Donald Tischer

Donald Dean Tischer, known to his loved ones as "Don," passed away peacefully on November 28, 2023, surrounded by his family.

Born on December 29, 1942, in Sheldon, Iowa, Don was the beloved son of Walter and Evelyn Tischer.  Don's family moved to Mankato, Minnesota, where he attended and graduated from high school. Following in his father's footsteps, he started working with his father as a carpenter, honing his skills and craftsmanship. Don traveled across the United States, leaving his mark on various projects along the way.

On May 27, 1977, Don married the love of his life, Laurie Weisgram, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Together, they embarked on a beautiful life journey filled with love, joy, and adventure.

Throughout his life, Don developed a deep passion for carpentry, a talent that brought him immense satisfaction. When he wasn't crafting something remarkable, you could find Don indulging in his favorite hobbies, playing Blackjack, attending car shows, and collecting Cadillacs.

In addition to his carpentry skills, Don worked as the Douglas County Property Tax Assessor, dedicating over two decades to serving his community.  Retiring in 2001, Don and Laurie took pleasure in traveling throughout the United States, creating memories with family and friends along the way.

Don leaves behind a profound and lasting legacy. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Laurie Tischer, his children Lori (Danny) Harry-Nisenoff, Jimmy (Wanda) Tischer, Shawn (Stacey) Tischer, and Jerry (Jackie) Tischer, as well as his twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Don's memory will also be cherished by his brother, Wally (Roxanne) Tischer, and sister, Allie Lechner.

He is reunited in eternal peace with his beloved daughter Jamie Tischer, stepson, Kevin Harris, Walter and Evelyn Tischer, and his brother, James Tischer.

Rest in peace, Don. Your spirit will live on in our memories and hearts forever.
