OBITUARY Donald Lane Westad departed this world much too young at age 65 on March 9, 2013 of complications following surgery. Don grew up on a dairy farm near Parkers Prairie. After graduating from Parkers High, and Alex Technical College, Don served in the US Army in Germany (1968 -1970). He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Donna (Benzinger); 95 year-old mother, Bernice; brothers Gary (Geri), Dean (Cheri), Mark and cherished nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Russell and sister, Carole. Don was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and golf. He loved to travel and one of his highlights was an African safari. Don was endowed with a deep work ethic. He worked over 30 years for Sharp Construction, and helped countless friends with their building projects. Always with a ready smile and a helping hand, Don touched so many lives. He lived in Coon Rapids over 40 years and spent many happy days on his hobby farm in Ottertail County. Proud of his Norwegian heritage, we can only say ?uff da, Donnie, uff da.? You will be greatly missed. A Funeral Service was held on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with the Reverend Marilee Bergerson officiating. Interment was in the Kinkead Cemetery. Casket Bearers were Andrew Benzinger, Nicole Benzinger, Alex Lanigan, Jamie Lanigan, Justin Phillips, Jason Westad, and Justin Westad. Honorary Casket Bearers were Pat Bettin, Gary Diekow, Lowell Glebe, Glenn Hagen, Paul Klimek, Joe Koep, Dick Lanigan, Jimmy Phillips, Christy Westad, and Kimberley Westad.
