Donna Mae Hopkins age 86 of Alexandria died on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at her home. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM on Monday, April 4, 2016 at New Life Christian Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be held 3-5 PM on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at the Anderson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
OBITUARY
Donna (Gullgren) “Porter” Hopkins was born on February 14, 1930 in Minneapolis, MN to Frank and Myrtle (Thompson) Gullgren. The family moved to Alexandria in 1940, where they owned and operated Geneva Lodge. Donna attended Alexandria High School.
Donna was united in marriage to Melburn “Mickey” Porter in October of 1947 at the Congregational Church in Alexandria. The couple lived in Enid, OK, where Mickey was from and started their family. Donna worked as the homemaker taking care of their family. The family moved to Alexandria in 1960 and Donna went to work at Peterson Drug Store for a few years. She then worked for Alexandria Clinic as the secretary for 23 years. Mickey died in 1984.
On March 29, 1986, Donna married Ron Hopkins in Perry Sound, Ontario, Canada. They lived in Perry Sound for a few years and they wintered in Weslaco, TX. The couple moved to Alexandria in 1999.
Donna enjoyed dancing, collecting dolls and was active in the Red Hats and Church Bible Studies.
Donna died on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at her home in Alexandria at the age of 86. She is survived by her son, Chuck (Becky) Porter of Alexandria; daughters, Sandy (Randy) Divine of Vero Beach, FL and Sue Daniels of Logan, UT; grandchildren, Jake Porter, Terrie (Tony) Smith, Tanya Archer, Jeff (Jen) Daniels, Heather Sims, Brea Daniels,and Anna Dille; and many great-grandchildren; sister, Sally Falk of Alexandria; and many nieces and nephews. Donna is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Myrtle; husbands, Mickey and Ronald; brothers, Milo and Gale Gullgren; sister, June Kiehne; and nephews, Gale and Greg Falk.
A funeral service was held on Monday, April 4, 2016 at New Life Christian Church in Alexandria with Pastor John Taplin officiating. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria.
