Alexandria

Donna May Kalpin, a beloved member of the Alexandria community, passed away on December 6, 2023.  Donna's passing marks the end of an era for her family and friends who will forever cherish the memories they created with her.

Donna was born on May 19, 1940, in Belle River Township the daughter of Raymond & Frances (Wachter) Rediehs.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith.  She graduated from Alexandria High School in 1958 and furthered her education at the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis.  While going to school she lived with the Lyman family where she nannied their children.  After receiving her degree, she worked for Equitable Assurance Society in Minneapolis.

In October of 1961 Donna was united in marriage to Dale Kalpin in Carlos, Minnesota.  After their marriage the couple farmed in Parkers Prairie and Donna worked as a secretary at the Parkers Prairie High School.  She enjoyed working there until their daughter Pam was born.  After Pam's birth Donna stayed home and helped on the farm.  The couple later had two more daughters: June & Penny.  In the early 1980's the Kalpin family moved to Alexandria where they owned and operated Kalpin's Boots & Saddles.  After closing their business, Donna also worked for Alexandria Schools and Woodsmen Power Products.

Donna will be remembered as a woman who loved giving to children whether it was through teaching Sunday School, giving donations to children’s foundations or giving surprise gifts to her grandchildren.

Family was of utmost importance to Donna. She adored her grandchildren who brought endless smiles to her face and filled her heart with joy and love.

Donna was a cherished wife to her late husband Dale. Together they built a loving and supportive partnership that served as an inspiration to all who knew them. Donna's loss is deeply felt by daughters: Pamela (James) Lippert, June (Rick) Nelson, and Penny (David) Messner; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; siblings: Wayne (Lois) Rediehs, Thomas Rediehs, and Carol Zwinger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandchild, baby Messner, great granddaughter, Harlow Elizabeth Nelson, and sisters Lois Lubeck and R’Lou Baum.

Donna's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her. Her memory will be treasured, and her legacy will live on through the love and kindness she shared with everyone she encountered.

The Kalpin family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered support, kind words, and love during this difficult time. Your presence and gestures of sympathy have brought comfort during their time of mourning.

As we gather to honor Donna's life, let us remember the joy she brought into our lives, the love she shared with others, and the lasting impact she had on our community. May she rest in peace, and may we continue to carry her memory in our hearts forever.
