Donna Mae Lundstrom, 92, passed away on July 3, 2024 at Knute Nelson Care Center. She was born in Omaha, NE, on July 14, 1931, to Ernst and Martha (Arnold) Loseke as the youngest of four children. She moved with her parents to Alexandria in 1943 and graduated from Central High School in 1949. After attending business college in Omaha, she returned to Alexandria and worked at the local telephone company. On November 18, 1950, she married Richard “Swede” H. Lundstrom, and together they raised their family on Lake Street in Alexandria.
Donna Mae was an active homemaker, volunteering at her church and in her community. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and cross-stitch, as well as being an avid reader. In her fifties, she began volunteering as a transporter at the Douglas County Hospital, which led to her full-time position in the Central Supply Room until her retirement in 1996. She enjoyed her work there, as well as connecting with other employees. Retirement years with Swede included following their grandchildren’s activities and discovering antique treasures at auctions.
After 66 years on Lake Street, she moved to Grand Arbor in December 2021, then to Nelson Gables in March 2023, and finally to Knute Nelson Care Center in April 2024. She is survived by her three children, Mark, Lafayette, IN; Doug (Janet), Owatonna, MN; and Lynda, Richfield, MN; four grandchildren, Melissa (Andy) Forbes, Cottage Grove, MN; Mike (Ellie) Lundstrom, Hastings, MN; Will (Natalie) Lundstrom, Cincinnati, OH; and Nick Lundstrom, Lafayette, IN; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Norma Lundstrom; and five nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Kay Kahre, Mary Harden and Don Loseke; husband, Swede; daughter-in-law, Mary Lundstrom; brother-in-law, Jim Lundstrom; and great-granddaughter, Runner Lundstrom.
Interment for the family will be at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Visitation for family and friends will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024, at New Life Christian Church in Alexandria, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. with John Taplin officiating.
