Donna Southerling

Donna Marie Southerling was born on June 23, 1935 to William and Ida (Block) Brede in Alexandria, MN. Donna attended schools in Alexandria. She worked as a nursing assistant and at Fanny Farmer in Minneapolis. Donna met Frederick Southerling and after five years of dating she married Fritz on August 9, 1958 at the St. Paul Cathedral. Two daughters were born to this union Kimberly and Elizabeth.

After living in St. Paul for about 20 years they moved to Alexandria and purchased the Homestead Inn. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

Donna M. Southerling died on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Alex Assisted Living at the age of 81 years old. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Irvin) Cook of Osakis, MN; grandchildren Jason (Erica) Cook of Brandon, MN; Jeremy (Mandy) Cook of Alexandria; Melissa Quinn of Alexandria; Ashley Quinn of Evansville; 5 great grandchildren, Cheyne, Casey, and JaLysa Cook all of Alexandria, Alexis Ellefritz of Alexandria, and Tucker Quinn of Evansville, brother, Richard (Kay) Block of Alexandria, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fritz Southerling, and her daughter Kimberly Quinn.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 11AM at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel.

A visitation will be held for Donna on Thursday, April 6, 2017 from 4-6PM at the Anderson Funeral Home and also for one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Interment will be in the Kinkead Cemetery.

Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home of Alexandria.
