Donnie Olson

February 18, 1930 — April 3, 2014

Donnie was born on February 18, 1930, in Holmes City Township the youngest of five children born to August and Mathilda (Anderson) Olson. The family farmed in Holmes City Township and Donnie attended country school and graduated from Kensington High School in 1948. Donnie was united in marriage to Joanne Rudell on June 13, 1953 at Farwell Lutheran Church. The couple moved onto the Olson family farm after their marriage where they farmed the land and enjoyed hunting there too. He was a hard, honest worker who appreciated the fruits of his labor. It was a difficult time for the Olson family in 1960 when their home was destroyed by a fire on Halloween night. Donnie rebuilt their home where the family has enjoyed many occasions especially the Olson reunions every year. Donnie also was an avid baseball player and fan. He played baseball throughout his adult life and enjoyed coaching his three sons later on. As the years moved along and he wasn?t able to play baseball he started golfing which he enjoyed through his later years. He loved to play cards with family and friends too ? especially whist. Donnie was a member of Oscar Lake Lutheran Church, Runestone Park Chairman, Church Council, Creamery Board, Kensington School Board. Donnie died on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at his home where he lived all his life. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; children: Carol (Frank) Anderson of Minneapolis, Donna (Reggie) Stark of Moorhead, Calvin of Kensington, Douglas (Kari) of Hoffman; ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, sister, Evelyn. He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel; parents, brothers: Clifford, Lloyd, Alfred. Funeral services were held on Monday, April 7, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Oscar Lake Lutheran Church.
