Dorene Jeanette “Madden” Jerzak, the daughter of Abraham and Iola (Weidauer) Madden was born on October 7, 1934, in Lynd, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Gerald Jerzak during a blizzard on January 22, 1953 at Immaculate Conception Church in Minneapolis at 11:00 a.m. in the rectory. After several moves the couple settled in Morris where they raised their five children: Daniel Paul, Lynn Marie, Philip Lee, Jeffry Jon, Kari Beth,"Sis" Helen (Niece) who is considered a part of the family, as she lived with them at one time.
Dorene worked for the Police Department Dispatch and Dr. Krassas Chiropractic while living in Morris. The couple retired in 1990 to Alexandria where they lived on Lake Jessie and she worked at Fleet Farm. She also volunteered at the hospital in the gift shop.
She also enjoyed crocheting and canning and entered items into the Stevens County Fair and won several ribbons. Dorene was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She loved to bowl, Play Bridge make caramels, enjoyed watching "True Crime" Stories and was an avid book reader.
Family and friends will remember her for always having a joke and a wonderful smile and laugh. Dorene died on Saturday, November 15, 2014, at the Douglas County Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Jerry of Alexandria; children: Daniel (James Renner) of Brooklyn Center, Lynn (Mark) Woolridge of Morris, Philip (Sandy Gonzales) of Algona, WA, Jeffry of Coon Rapids, Kari (Troy) Bott of Salem , VA, “sis”, Helen Miller of Alexandria; eight grandchildren: Luke, Rachel, Amy Jo, Ellary, Jared, Andy, Abel, Mason.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Ardyth & Helen.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, November 22, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Arrangements with Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
