Doris Reznecheck

December 16, 1934 — October 25, 2018

Alexandria

Doris Elizabeth Niehoff was born December 16, 1934, at home, in Greenwald, Stearns County, Minnesota, the only daughter of Boniface Niehoff and Johanna (Rademacher) Niehoff. She attended school in Greenwald and Melrose, Minnesota. The farmers' daughter, she enjoyed a country life in youth, learning from her parents skills and strong values; these were to serve her throughout her life.

Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all."  Proverbs 31:28-29. She married Jack Reznecheck in 1954 at St. Andrews Church, Greenwald, they moved to Sauk Centre and then to Alexandria, Minnesota where they were to spend their lives - and model a true love story - enjoying 57 years of marriage. She maintained her home and busy household on a budget, gave birth to and together raised six children, and she walked in her strong faith, often challenged by the times in which she lived. Her professional hopes for herself were always in business, she realized these by working as a bookkeeper, in clerical fields, for their trucking business, and then outside the home at a bank and for the county. After her retirement from ALASD in 1997, she and Jack traveled extensively throughout the USA and world. She worked part-time in retirement and volunteered.

They built two homes in Alexandria, the second being on Lake Latoka, where her joy was fulfilled creating memories with their much loved grandchildren. Some of her interests included handcrafts and decorating, at which she excelled, particularly sewing, and her famous baking - always loving to share something new and delicious. A woman who could put a tremendous Thanksgiving dinner on the table for twenty or more people and make it look easy, her self-sacrifice meant she often ate hers after others had finished. She was a sharp card player and played bridge in two clubs, golfed in league, was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and Christian Mothers at St. Mary's, a member of the Alexandria Firemans' Auxiliary where she had many friends. She was loyal to her friendships of youth, neighbors, parish friends and colleagues. She loved watching all her children in sports, took pride in their other endeavors and successes, always enthusiastic in support.

If our Dad's gift was unfailing love, hers was unshakable faith and strength in which our family sheltered. She was the quietly formidable powerhouse and compass of our family.

Diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, she moved to care facilities in 2010, finally arriving at Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, Minnesota, where she entered eternity on October 25, 2018. She courageously carried her cross a long, long way. She is now reunited in loving spirit with her husband Jack; her parents Bonie and Johanna Niehoff and one brother, Robert Niehoff; her parents-in-law Ernest and Ann Reznecheck and brother-in-law Jim Reznecheck. Survived by her children Doug (Kathi) Reznecheck, Denise (John) Riek, Jeff (Julie) Reznecheck, Jay (Cathi Jo) Reznecheck, Russ (Sue) Reznecheck, Rachel Kiekow; eleven grandchildren, spouses, eleven great-grandchildren; her brother Jerry (Carol) Niehoff, sisters-in-law Diane Niehoff and Rose Reznecheck; nieces, nephews, many dear friends. Her funeral is held on Friday, November 2, 2018 at The Church of St. Mary, Alexandria, Minnesota with Rev. Steve Binsfeld officiating, and with visitation beginning at 10:00am in the church. Please join us for lunch afterward in the Great Hall. Memorials are preferred to Lewy Body Dementia Association, https://www.lbda.org/donate.
