Dorothy Ann Jindra was born July 18, 1944 in Glenwood, MN, the daughter of Joseph and Agnes (Mrnak) Jindra.
Dorothy grew up on the family farm in Lake Mary Township, MN. She attended high school in Alexandria where she graduated.
On June 13, 1967 Dorothy was united in marriage to Louis Chan at the St. John Nepomuk Church. To this union four children were born. Louis and Dorothy were able to celebrate thirty-three years of marriage together.
Following Louis’ death Dorothy has resided in an assisted living facility due to health issues. She enjoyed working with the staff members and showing them how to cook. She was also in charge of choosing the flowers for the gardens each summer.
In addition to her love of gardening Dorothy enjoyed playing her organ. She loved animals and kept cats and dogs as pets. Dorothy was skilled at cooking and was known for her gravy. Her cooking skills have been passed down to all of her children, they are all great cooks. Garage sales and thrift stores were frequent destinations for Dorothy. She loved shopping for the bargain to beat all bargains. When Dorothy was younger she taught religious classes to the children at church. She loved children and ran the nursery during church services. She was very proud of her own children and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
On Monday, September 1, 2014 Dorothy died at the age of seventy years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis Chan; one daughter, Gail Chan; and one granddaughter, Ashley Swanberg. Dorothy is survived by her son, Matthew Chan and wife, Shannon, of Carlos, MN; two daughters, Rachel Swanberg and husband, Steve, of Alexandria and Jill Koep and husband, Randy, of Millerville, MN; grandchildren, Kevin Koep, Katie Gavin, Kayla Koep, Ryan Swanberg, Piper Chan and Aidan Chan; two great grandchildren, Riley and Wyatt Frutiger; and one brother, Joe Jindra of Glenwood.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Friday, September 5, 2014 at the Church of St. John Nepomuk. Reverend Father James Statz will be the celebrant. Private interment will follow in the church cemetery at a later date. Casket bearers include Steve Swanberg, Randy Koep, Kevin Koep, Ryan Swanberg, Matthew Chan and Joe Jindra.
