Dorothy M. Larson Dorothy Mae Larson was born in Alexandria, Minnesota, on June 29, 1925, the daughter of Norman and Anna (Glaum) Jensen. She was baptized and confirmed at the First English Lutheran Church and graduated from Central High School in Alexandria in 1943. Dorothy then attended the University of Minnesota in the Dietician class for two years and returned to Alexandria. It was while working at the hardware store that she met Lloyd Larson. The couple was united in marriage on October 21, 1945. The couple began farming on the Larson family farm in Carlos Township prior to buying their own farm in Alexandria in 1947. The property they bought is now known as the Alexandria Industrial Park. The Larsons farmed this land until 1968 when they sold the farm but kept a small parcel as a homestead. Following the sale of their farm, Dorothy began working as a cook at Central School and later worked at the Viking Motel. It was while at the Viking Motel that Dorothy became known for her pies and became known as the ?Pie Lady?. Her pies were enjoyed at the Rainbow Court and Angelina?s. Dorothy will be remembered as a caring, determined individual who truly loved the gift of service. She was a dedicated mother, a dedicated wife, and a dedicated employee. She was a lifetime member of the First Lutheran Church. Lloyd died in 2001 and in 2005 Dorothy moved into Windmill Ponds. In 2007 she moved to Bethany Home and in February 2012 into Knute Nelson. Dorothy died on Thanksgiving morning, November 22, 2012, at the Douglas County Hospital at the age of 87 years. She is survived by her son Rick (Shelli) Larson of Forada, daughters Barbara Friberg of Madison, WI, Mary Lou (Gary) Walz of Melrose, and Julie (James) Wesen of Starbuck. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren ? Justin Friberg, Stacy (Matt) Fiedler, Erica Walz, Adam Walz, Andrew (Jill) Walz, Stephanie Wesen, Lance (Masu) Wesen, Katie Wesen, Mason Larson, Evan Larson, and Peyton Larson; great-grandchildren Owen Fiedler, Alayna Fiedler, Graham Fiedler, Lilliana Walz-Seviour, Savannah Wesen and Tobias Green; as well as a sister-in-law Viola Larson. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd, and brother Robert Jensen. Funeral services were held on Monday, November 26, 2012, at the First Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Minnesota, with Rev. Kari van Wakeren officiating. Virginia Hegre and Kathy Patton provided music. Interment was in the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria, Minnesota, with the grandsons serving as pallbearers. All of the granddaughters served as Honorary Pallbearers.
