Dorothy Lee, age 93, of Alexandria, died Thursday, July 2, 2015. A funeral service will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at Living Waters Church in Alexandria. Interment will follow in the Kinkead Cemetery at Alexandria. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Monday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria and also one hour prior to the service at church. Memorials are preferred to the Lake Geneva Christian Center.
OBITUARY
Dorothy Luella Lee was born December 30, 1921 in Minneapolis, MN the daughter of Glen and Jennie (Fouts) Lee. She was one of five children. Dorothy grew up and attended school at Villard, MN. Following her graduation from Villard High School she continued her education at a nurse’s training school. She received her degree and began working as an LPN.
In 1943 Dorothy chose to serve her country by enlisting in the Women’s Army Air Corps. Dorothy was stationed as a sergeant at Lowry Field in Denver, CO. She served for three years and was honorably discharged in 1945. Following her discharge she worked in California at a large hospital for a short time. Dorothy moved to Alexandria, MN and began work at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in 1947. While working, she met Marvin Lee who had come to visit a friend at the hospital. Dorothy and Marvin were united in marriage on August 14, 1948. They made their home east of Garfield, MN and were blessed with seven children.
Dorothy continued her career in nursing at Our Lady of Mercy until it merged with Douglas County Hospital. She worked as a nurse for thirty-five plus years. Following her retirement Dorothy volunteered her time caring for newborns. She also spent time visiting the elderly and shut-ins in the community.
Dorothy was a woman of strong faith and loved Jesus Christ with all of her heart. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church and raised her family in the Christian faith. She taught Sunday school for over thirty years; many years her children had perfect attendance records for Sunday school. She also served by volunteering time to the Women’s Missionary Council (WMC’S)for nearly thirty years. Prayer was an important aspect of Dorothy’s faith, she prayed for those in need, for her church, her friends and her family.
On Thursday, July 2, 2015 Dorothy died at the age of ninety-three years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Jennie Lee; her husband, Marvin Lee; and her brother’s Jim and Bob Lee.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Alan Lee and wife, Judy, of Moorhead, MN, Paul Lee and wife, Georgia, of Towanda, IL, James Lee and wife, Kim, of Garfield, Mark Lee and wife, Jodi, of Alexandria, Gary Lee and wife, Lona, of Oceanside, CA, Lois Rausch and husband, David, of Burnsville, MN and Kevin Lee and wife, Lynn, of Ramsey, MN; twenty-one grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and two sisters, Martha Kuhlmann of Montevideo, MN and Faith Billings of Hephzibah, GA.
A funeral service was held July 7, 2015 at Living Waters Assembly of God Church in Alexandria with Reverend Sam McKay officiating. Interment followed in Kinkead Cemetery Casket bearers included Alan Lee, Paul Lee, James Lee, Mark Lee, Gary Lee, Kevin Lee and David Rausch. Honorary casket bearers include all of Dorothy’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Military honors were provided by the American legion Post 87, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 936, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 235 and the Minnesota National Guard. Memorials are preferred to the Lake Geneva Christian Center.
