Dorothy Lund

February 6, 1912 — February 6, 1912

Dorothy M. (Lauthen) was born on February 6, 1912 on the prairies of North Dakota near the town of Mohall. At the age of five she, her parents, older brothers George and Dayton and her twin brother James moved to a farm near Brandon, MN. Dorothy attended grade school thru high school in Brandon where she also grew into adulthood. She took nurses training in Fergus Falls until forced to quit because of blood poisoning. Later Dorothy worked at the Lingbloomston Rest Home in St. Paul before moving back to Alexandria and began working at Bethany Home. While working there she caught the eye of a dashing young man named Clifford Lund. Cliff served as head custodian and jack-of-all-trades. The romance turned into marriage and they were married on June 15, 1940. Eventually they moved to Salina, KS where Cliff was a truck driver for Gamble Stores. The family grew to include son, Gary born in 1942 and their faithful dog, Bunny. World War II soon started and Cliff enlisted in the US Navy forcing Dorothy, Gary and Bunny to return to her parent?s farm near Brandon. Upon his discharge Cliff and Dorothy returned to Salina where he resumed trucking for Gambles. In 1948, another son, Duane was born. In 1950, the family moved to Fremont, NE where Cliff trucked out of the new Gamble warehouse and Dorothy was heavily involved in Sinai Lutheran Church. The family moved back to Brandon in 1955, where they took over her parent?s farm. Both Cliff and Dorothy were active in church and community activities including: Garden Club, serving on the East Moe Ladies Aid and the Women?s Circle. She was also very active in the Brandon American Legion Auxiliary. Dorothy lived her life for her husband, her sons, her parents, her church and community but most of all her Lord. The Lord called her home on April 24, 2008 at Sharon?s Senior Services in Alexandria at the age of 96. Dorothy looked forward to this reunion her Lord, her husband and other loved ones.
