Dorothy Saiko

Dorothy Catherine (Thalhuber) Saiko was born February 24, 1921 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Rudolph and Catherine (Simota) Thalhuber. She graduated from Washington High School in St. Paul, MN. After graduation she worked at American Can Company during World War II. Dorothy married Robert Saiko on July 5, 1947 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in St. Paul. They moved to Wadena and Thief River Falls for a few months. They made their permanent home in Alexandria in 1952 where Robert was a State Trooper and Dorothy was a homemaker. To this union they were blessed with two children, Robert Joseph and Catherine Marie. Dorothy had the most dynamic wit and humor from the sky. She provoked osmosis from all people around her in Alexandria to the St. Cloud Care Center and to the Twin Cities. She loved her grandchildren and all animals in disguise. Dorothy loved music, writing, and inspired the comedian, Susan Vass. Her faith was foremost important. Dorothy died on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the Talahi Care Center in St. Cloud, MN at the age of 87. She is survived by her daughter, Catherine (Charlie) Zulkosky of St. Cloud, MN; grandchildren, Connor and Cate Zulkosky; brothers, Richard (Beverly) Thalhuber and Donald Thalhuber both of St. Paul; sister, Marie Sazevich of Minneapolis; sister-in-laws, Rosemary Opitz, Marian Saiko ,Sr. Paul Therse Saiko, and Harriet Thalhuber all of St. Paul and Shirley Thalhuber of White Bear Lake; brother?in-law, Leo Gau of Woodbury; and many loving nieces and nephews; and a special thank you to all who cared for Dorothy. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Catherine; husband, Robert; son, Robert Joseph; brothers, Arthur Thalhuber and James Thalhuber; and sister, Bernice Gau. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM with Parish Prayers at 6 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Entombment will be held in the St. Mary?s Mausoleum. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
