Dorothy Lydia Brede was born December 9, 1926 in Alexandria, the daughter of Otto and Lousia (Schoenech) Brede. She was raised on the family farm near Lake Ida and attended country school near Garfield, MN. Following her schooling Dorothy began work candling eggs in Garfield and later worked for JC Penney?s in Alexandria. On June 26, 1949 Dorothy was united in marriage to Clarence Schulz at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Russell of Garfield. The couple was blessed with one son, Maurice. Dorothy was very proud of her family. She loved being a homemaker, caring for her family and raising her child. Dorothy?s father, Otto, was a founding member of St. John?s Lutheran Church at Garfield and Dorothy was proud of that. Her church life was a source of strength for her and she strengthened her church. Dorothy was always active in her church. She taught Saturday and Sunday School, was a member of the Lutheran Women?s Missionary League and helped out at many church events. She also supported many events in the town of Garfield. She was a member of the Fire Dept. Auxiliary and, as a lifelong resident she loved her town. On Wednesday, August 18, 2010 Dorothy died at the age of eighty-three years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Schulz; two brothers, Fred and Waldemar Brede; and one sister, Florence Russell. Dorothy is survived by her son, Maurice Schulz and wife, Catherine, of Coon Rapids, MN; four grandchildren, Erika (and Chase) Urista, Taylor Schulz, Brandon Schulz and Adam (and Jackie) Schulz; and two great grandchildren, Paris and Chance Urista. A funeral service was held on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Garfield with Rev. Shawn Etheridge officiating. Irma Brockberg provided music. Interment followed in St. Johns Cemetery with Adam Schulz, Brandon Schulz, Taylor Schulz, Dale Russell, Bob Brede, Ardell Brede and Shawn Brede serving as pallbearers. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria.
