Dorothy Strand

Dorothy Paulina Strand (Ulrich) was born March 11, 1927, in Vernon Center, MN to Lina (Kietzer) and Harry Ulrich.  Dorothy was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Willow Creek, MN.

After she left home, she worked at the bakery in Mankato and as an operator at the local telephone company. Afterwards her knowledge of the telephone company enabled her to relocate to Sacramento where she worked at the Governor's mansion. After returning to Minnesota, she worked for Standard Oil Company in Mankato as a bookkeeper.

In 1956, Dorothy met her future husband Bud (Emerald) in Waseca, MN. They were married on July 27, 1957. They made their home in Alexandria where Dorothy worked at Yuetter’s Bakery, Jefferson High School, and Douglas County Hospital.

Dorothy enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking, and spending time with family.

On Wednesday, August 18, 2021, Dorothy died at the age of ninety-four years. She is survived by Bradley Strand, Lori (Larry) Perreault, Lisa (David ) Hanson, and Heidi (David ) Schultz; thirteen grandchildren, Heather Strand, Jenni Oile (Strand), Laura Nagel (Strand), Kacey Perreault, Tory Perreault, Matt Hanson, Aaron Hanson, Jacob Hanson, Caleb Schultz, Josiah Schultz, Micah Schultz, Lydia Schultz and seven great grandchildren.  Preceding her in death was her husband, Emerald (Bud); and grandson, Josh Perreault.

A funeral service will be held at 10 AM, Monday, August 23, 2021, at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Reverend Don Wilke will officiate. Interment will be at Geneva Cemetery in Alexandria. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 AM Monday at the church.
