Dr. John Edward Toft, Jr. 

July 17, 1952 – February 20, 2024

John Toft was born on July 17, 1952 in Alexandria, Minnesota, son of John Edward Toft, Sr. and Laura Mae Toft. He peacefully passed away in Alexandria on February 20, holding the hands of his children and surrounded by love. 

John graduated from Alexandria High School in 1970. He went on to serve in the Navy from 1970 to 1976. After being honorably discharged, he studied at the University of Minnesota – Morris where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. He went on to obtain his Doctor of Chiropractic from Northwestern Health Sciences University in 1985. It was here, in the field of Chiropractic Sciences, that John found his life-giving passion. He worked hard and consistently challenged himself to provide the best outcomes for his patients. Those who received his care would agree that he did just that!

John was the loving father to four children – Philip, Alison, Andrea and Sara. He loved his children dearly. He found out later in life that his favorite role, though, was being a doting grandpa to his five grandchildren and two grandpups. 

John’s children will always cherish the memories of him cooking; he enjoyed combining several recipes together to make unique – and delicious – meals. Things that brought him joy were endless: working outside in his gardens to make sure his flowers were well cared for each year, watching the birds out his window, playing cards, fishing, diving in local lakes, and playing pool (he was a true pool shark).  He gave his everything in life and fought his hardest until the very end. His passion for life and love will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.  

John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Laura Mae Toft, and his sister, Kathy Toft. He is survived by his four children – Dr. Philip Toft, Alison (Rick) Kamphake, Andrea Toft and Sara (Paco) Jacobsen, along with his five grandchildren – Piper and Briggs Kamphake, Evelyn, Landon and Cali Jacobsen, and his two grandpups – Willow and Charlotte Toft, siblings Lee Toft, Randi Thompson, Paul Toft, nieces, nephews, cousins. 

Prayer Service will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024, 4:00 PM with visitation following from 4:30 - 6:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home. The family John wishes to take this means of thanking you for your kind expressions of sympathy through your cards, memorials, letters and gifts.
