Duane Flagstad

Duane David Flagstad Age 71, of Alexandria. Survived by wife of 49 years, Jeanne; children Brian (Kim) of Hinckley, MN and Lynn (Amy Finken) of St Paul, MN; grandchildren Sarah, Kyle, Berit and Maren; brothers LeRoy (Val) of Rapid City, SD and Gary of Wyndmere, ND and sister Shirley Skoglund of Lake Norden, SD. Preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Alpha, stepmother Mabel and brother-in-law Elly Skoglund. Duane was born February 26, 1937, and raised on the family farm in Colfax Township north of Wyndmere, ND. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, graduating in 1959 with degrees in Business Education and Psychology; he later received a MA degree in Public School Administration from NDSU. Duane taught high school business education in Evansville and Detroit Lakes, MN and was the high school principal in Welcome and Belgrade, MN. Duane and Jeanne retired to the lake in Park Rapids in 1996, moving from there to Alexandria in 2006. Duane loved family, fishing, woodworking, gardening, cards and road trips. His grandchildren were a particular focal point - he was a familiar face at their sporting events and astonishingly adept at Barbie weddings. He will be remembered for his gregarious nature, his selflessness and his unerring belief that we have an obligation to do right by others. As much as Duane loved flowers, he enjoyed them most outdoors. Memorials preferred to Second Harvest Heartland food shelf or to the American Cancer Society. Celebration of life Friday, February 27 at 11 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Minnesota.
