Duane O. Lund was born April 2, 1926 in Henning, MN, the son of Ole and Alta (Wilde) Lund. Duane was raised and educated in Kensington, MN. Following his graduation from high school Duane enlisted in the US Navy. He served in the Philippines where he piloted a Navy LST. After serving his country for two years Duane retuned to Minnesota in 1946. On August 20, 1949 Duane was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Doris Johnson at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria, MN. The couple made their home in Minneapolis for a short time and later moved to Robbinsdale, MN. They were blessed with three daughters Debra, Denise and Dawn. Duane was a parts manager for Minnesota Toro for thirty ?two years. He enjoyed his job, traveling the area and visiting with retailers to make sure they stocked needed inventories He was good at what he did and knew his parts catalog well, if someone needed a part identified or tracked down Duane was the man to talk to. In 1972 Duane and Doris bought a cabin on Lake Carlos near Alexandria. In 1984 they built and turned the cabin into a year round home. After his retirement in 1991 Duane and Doris made the home on Lake Carlos their full-time residence. Duane was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Duane enjoyed gardening and always kept a large vegetable victory garden. He was also an avid fisherman, both summer and winter. He won an electric motor once when he showed up a Christopherson?s Bait with an 11-pound walleye he caught on Lake Le Homme Dieu. Duane also liked music. He had voice like Dean Martin and singing with his family. Duane loved watching football, professional or college. Duane absolutely loved Doris? cooking; he enjoyed cooking too. What Duane loved most in life was his family. He was proud of his girls and loved his wife deeply. On Friday, May 20, 2011 Duane died at the age of eighty-five years at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Kern Teske and Donald Lorenz. Duane is survived by his beloved wife, Doris Lund of Alexandria; three daughters, Debra Kane and husband, Dan, of Wayzata, MN, Denise Teske of Plymouth, MN and Dawn Lorenz of Plymouth; three grandchildren, Jessica Brown, Brooke Kane and Sean Kane; on great granddaughter, Karaghan Hannah Brown; and many relatives and friends. Duane?s family extends a special thank you to Hospice Care. A graveside service will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the Spruce Hill Cemetery near Miltona, MN. Reverend John Martinson will officiate. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 936, the American Legion Post 87 and the Minnesota National Guard will accord military honors. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
