Duane Nelson

Duane R. Nelson, age 79, of Alexandria, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 17th, 2016 at HCMC in Minneapolis surrounded by his family.
Duane was born on May 28, 1937, in Fargo, North Dakota to Harris and Frances (Amberg) Nelson. Duane graduated from Moorhead State and received his Master's Degree in Counseling from Indiana University. He spent 33, years in education with 30 years dedicated to Hopkins High School as a Guidance Counselor.
Duane was united in marriage to Kay Lavold on August 13, 1960 in Moorhead, Minnesota. Duane and Kay retired to Alexandria, Minnesota in 1995 where he was involved in Let's Go Fishing, Douglas County Health Board, Lake Latoka Property Owners Association and many other various activities.
Duane is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Kay. He was a great father to his two sons: Randal and Kent (Annette), 3 grandchildren: Jilliann, Kayla and Brett; brother, Larry (Doris) and brothers-in-law: Jack (Carol) Lavold, Jim (Mary) Lavold.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Harris & Francis; brother, Paul; in-laws: John & Addy Lavold.
In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Let's Go Fishing Alexandria, Outreach Food, Calvary Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church and also one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
