The oldest of four children, Duane ?Dewey? Irving Olson was born April 3, 1965 in Blue Earth, Minnesota, and graduated from Lyle, MN High School in 1983. He moved with family to Las Vegas, Nevada for a period of time, but eventually they returned to Minnesota. In 1996 he became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), graduating from Alexandria Technical College. Duane began working at the Hoffman Good Samaritan Society long-term facility, and did so whole-heartedly for 18 years. He shared his great sense of humor with staff and residents while working there, and it brought joy to his life. Duane was very family-oriented, and never lived far from his. He was a loyal son and devoted brother, always willing to lead by example. He loved to spoil his 11 nieces and nephews, and was always there to support them in their various interests. Duane loved gardening, camping, being with family, and visiting with friends. He was an avid reader of uplifting books, and studied the scriptures intently. He loved keeping in touch with his friends and relatives through Facebook, and he could often be found searching the internet for gospel related topics. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Duane served his Church duties with enthusiasm and dedication in the Alexandria Ward. He was described by his Bishop as a vital part of the local Church leadership. Duane was called home by his Father in Heaven on June 23, 2011. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Johannas Olson, Gladys (Johnson) Olson, Evelyn (Fryman) Olson, and Leonard McLain. Duane is survived by his Parents: Donald and Barbara Olson of Ashby, MN; Grandmother: Helen McLain of Las Vegas, NV; Siblings: Dion and Kristy Olson of Hoffman, MN, Kyle and Tammie Olson of Ashby, MN; Trista and Chad Beuning of Meire Grove, MN; Nephews and Nieces: Bryant, Casey, and Jonathon Olson of Hoffman, MN; Royal (Crow), Ethan, Wyatt, Kade, Maggie, Samuel, and Natalea Olson of Ashby, MN; Tyler Beuning of Meire Grove, MN. Visitation will be at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria July1st at 6-8 pm. Visitation on July 2nd at 9am with services starting at 10am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1427 Lake Street, Alexandria off Nokomis behind Alexandria High School.
