Earl Berglund

Earl Vincent Berglund, the son of John and Agnes (Erickson) Berglund, was born in Alexandria, MN on February 4, 1931.  Earl grew up in Alexandria where he enjoyed playing sports, hunting and graduated from Central High School in 1949.    Earl married his high school sweetheart Donna White from Osakis, MN.  They were united in marriage on June 2, 1951 at the First Presbyterian Church in Osakis.   Earl served in the United States Army and he was stationed in Alabama.  They returned to Minnesota and lived near Alexandria.  Eventually they settled in Brooklyn Park, MN.  Earl and Donna had four children Barb, Joe, Pat, and Tim.  Earl was a proud union electrician and worked in the Minneapolis area for many years.

However, the Alexandria area was always home to Earl and Donna.  In the late 60’s they built a cabin on Lake Carlos.   After a fire in 1991, they constructed a beautiful lake home and retired to Lake Carlos in 1993.  Earl loved the lake, his pole barn, being in the woods, cruising on his pontoon, driving his 4-wheeler, cutting wood and sitting on their patio overlooking the lake watching sunsets with a fire in the pit.  This lake home became a place his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren loved.

Earl was a great husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a role model to those who knew him.   He created everlasting memories for his family.   He took his kids and grandchildren snowmobiling, let them race around on motorcycles, pulled them behind the 4-wheeler on sleds, cut trails in the woods to run the go cart, pulled them water skiing and had fun.

Earl was a devoted and caring husband.   He loved Donna and spending time together.  They were truly a match made in heaven.  He was a hardworking man, loved life and his family. He will forever be in our hearts.

Earl V. Berglund died on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Knute Nelson at the age of 87.  He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Donna Berglund; sons, Joe (Sharon) Berglund of Maple Grove and Tim (Susan) Berglund of Lake Carlos; daughters, Barb Fisher of Apache Junction, AZ and Pat (Jeff) Berg of Maple Grove; grandchildren, Chris (Randy) Saulsbury of New Munich, MN, Jim (Shane) Fisher of Hamilton, MT, Kristin Berglund of St. Michael, Briana Berglund of Minneapolis, and Eric Berg of St. Paul; seven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.  Earl was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Orrin and John and his sisters, Gayle, Phyllis, and June.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 11 AM at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria.   Interment will be at the Carlos Prairie Cemetery.  Casket Bearers are Joe Berglund, Tim Berglund, Jeff Berg, Eric Berg, Randy Saulsbury and Cole Saulsbury.
