OBITUARY
Edna Mae was born October 18, 1928, at the family farm in Solem Township, the youngest of three children born to Harry and Myrtle (Strom) Rudell. She attended country school and graduated from Hoffman High School in 1946.
Following graduation, she worked at the Ogdahl Hatchery in Farwell. It was in Farwell where she met Stanley Anderson. They were united in marriage on July 25, 1952. They moved to Alexandria where they raised their four children. It was during this time that she began a daycare business. Many kids passed through "Auntie Mae's" care and they relished her macaroni and cheese and her hugs. She continued doing daycare until the oldest grandchild began middle school. "Grandma Mae" started working as an assistant cook. She retired from that position when the last grandchild in the Alexandria School District finished middle school.
In the early 1990s Edna Mae started "Dakota Street Trading Post" and operated that business during weekends in the summer. She enjoyed visiting with the shoppers. Her home was always a hub of activity. The coffee was always on, the cookie jar was full and she was always available to sit and listen. She loved having her grandchildren near.
In addition to family, friends and work, she was involved in the Legion Auxiliary, Firemen Auxiliary and Calvary Lutheran Church.
In 2013 Edna Mae moved to Alexandria Assisted Living and lived there until her death. For the past six months she was also under the care of Glacial Ridge Hospice.
Edna Mae died May 7, 2017, at the age of 88. She is survived by her children; Mark and Gladys Anderson, Jed and Terese Anderson, Neal Anderson and Miriam Buhler, and Lynn and Kyle Flesner; nine grandchildren; Corey (Katie) Hicks, Jennifer (Glen) Rasmusen, Jacqueline (Brian) Yavarow, Matt (Dana) Anderson, Kayla (Dave) Sanstead, Josh Anderson, Keason Flesner, Talia Anderson and Mora Anderson; and 18 great-grandchildren.
