Edna Tabbert

August 18, 1917 — November 25, 1939

Edna Tabbert was born August 18, 1917, daughter of Conrad and Mary (Yanda) Potter. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and grew up in North Dakota. Edna graduated from Fingal High School and attended Valley City State Teachers? College for three years. She was married to Henry Tabbert on November 25, 1939. Edna and Henry had three children, Sharon, Curtis, and Donna and lived on the farm near Eckelson, North Dakota until 1955 when the family moved to San Luis Obispo, California. In San Luis Obispo and Pismo Beach, they operated laundromats for six years, before moving to Alexandria where she was active in Lake Mary Homemakers Club, church and First Lutheran circles. She wanted her obituary to read that she ?loved to crochet, sew, cook, go fishing, and play cards?but most of all she loved being able to be with her grandchildren.? As her children, we want to add that she also loved life, loved to laugh, loved poetry, loved music, loved cooking for others, and always wanted to make sure everyone?s needs were met. She was a devoted wife and mother who was dedicated to her family, had a kind word for everyone and always a wonderful smile. She never failed to wave good-bye to us at the window when we left for our homes. We were blessed to have such a beautiful mother, and we will miss her deeply. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter Sharon (Ted) Melsheimer of Carson City, Nevada, son Curtis (Linda) Tabbert of Parkers Prairie, Minnesota, and daughter Donna (Roderick) Long of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her eight grandchildren ?whom she lavished with unboundable love and countless of her homemade chocolate chip cookies-- include Susan (Jack) Yturiaga, Steve (Nicole) Melsheimer, Corey (Lisa) Tabbert, Chris (Michelle) Tabbert, Nick (Nicole) Tabbert, Kevin (Danielle Bosko) Long, Keith (Rebecca) Long, and Dave Long; seven great-grandchildren: Lyndsey and Justin Snowden, Stephanie and Nicholas Melsheimer, Jayna and Lance Tabbert, and Gavin Tabbert; sister, Joyce Stibbe of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; brother-in-law, Dr. Charles Seger of San Luis Obispo, CA. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Henry, her parents, her brother Edward and his wife, Elda, her dear sister-in-law Emmy, and her brother-in-law Otto. Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 11, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Rev. Greg Billberg officiating. Pallbearers were her grandchildren: Susan Yturiaga, Steve Melsheimer, Corey Tabbert, Kevin Long, Chris Tabbert, Keith Long, Nick Tabbert, Dave Long. Entombment was at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria.
