Edward Bitzan

May 31, 1921 — April 12, 2018

Edward Frank Bitzan was born on May 31, 1921, on a farm in Millerville Township the son of Albert and Caroline (Ledermann) Bitzan.  He attended District #25 for two years of grade school and graduated from 8th grade at District #72.  Ed graduated from Brandon High School in 1940.

Edward served his country during World War II in the United States Army from 1942 - 1945 and was honorably discharged in December of 1945.  After returning from the war he attended St. John’s University and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry in 1950.  Ed worked for the United States Dept of the Interior Bureau of Minds at Grand Forks, North Dakota, as a Chemist until 1982 when he retired.  In 2009, he moved back to Minnesota and lived the past nine years at the Evansville Care Center.

In his spare time he enjoyed playing harmonica, playing cards, hunting, fishing, softball and attending basketball games.  Ed loved to travel and took many trips all over the world.

He was a member of the Millerville American Legion and Knights of Columbus.

Ed died on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at the Prairie Ridge Hospital in Elbow Lake with Charlie and Bernadine at his side.  He is survived by his sister, Bernadine Schiele; brother, Charles (Susan) Bitzan; in – laws: George Dorn, Carol (Hockert) Bitzan and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Robert & James Bitzan; sisters: Margaret Schmidt, Irene Stariha, Dorothy Bitzan, Florence Dorn; brother-in-laws: Philip Schmidt & Leander Stariha, Wilfred Schiele.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 19th, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Church with a Prayer Service at 6:00 PM and a Knights of Columbus Rosary to follow.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Millerville.  Burial will be at the church cemetery.  Military honors are being conducted by the Millerville Legion.  Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
