Egner William Henry Zastrow was born May 18, 1918 in Leaf Valley Township, MN, the son of Frank and Alvina (Brueske) Zastrow. He attended school at Leaf Valley. On December 2, 1940 Egner was joined in marriage to Phyllis Swenson in St. Paul, MN. During World War II Egner served in the United States Army Air Corp. Following his service Egner owned and operated a number of businesses including an implement business and car dealerships. Following Egner?s retirement He and Phyllis wintered in southern Texas for the next twenty-five years. They enjoyed making many new friends in Texas. Egner enjoyed planting trees, woodworking, hunting and fishing. Egner was a self-taught mechanical engineer. He loved working on things; repairing them and making things work again. Egner?s faith was the most important thing in his life. He was always quick to discuss the many aspects of being a Christian. Egner was active in the churches he attended and supported their evangelical mission. His solid faith showed in the love he had for Phyllis, his children and their families,his nephews, and friends and strangers alike. On Sunday, March 22, 2009 Egner died at the age of ninety years. He was preceded in death by his sister, Velna Myrvold; and brother, Virgil Zastrow. Egner is survived by his wife, Phyllis Zastrow of Alexandria; five children, Jack Zastrow and wife, Linda, of Denton, TX, Kenneth Zastrow and wife, Marilyn, of Denton. Dale Zastrow and wife, Ilene, of LaCrosse, WI, Scott Zastrow and wife, Deborah, of Brandon, MN, and Judy Hennen and husband, John, of Anoka, MN; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; three sisters, Sadie Rosenberger of Bend, OR, Marcella Holverson of Salem, OR and Ferne Urness of Alexandria; and one brother, James Zastrow of Alexandria.
