Elaine Margaret was born on January 28, 1926, the daughter of John and Mary (Tvrdik) Craig in Reno Township of Pope County, Minnesota. She attended country school and graduated from Central High School in Alexandria. Elaine taught two years at Country Schools in Douglas County. Elaine was united in marriage to Harold Navratil on March 25, 1949 in Alexandria. To this union two daughters were born. The family moved to Wadena and then back to the farm in Alexandria in 1963. They moved to Bethel Manor in 1999, and Elaine died at the age of 82 years on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at Bethany Nursing Home where she had been a resident for eight years. Elaine?s interests included baking, sewing for her family, gardening, drawing, and painting. She was especially fond of tending her rose garden. She was a devoted member of both St. Helen?s and Emmanuel Episcopal Churches of Wadena and Alexandria where she faithfully served on the Altar Guild for many years. She was a Sunday School teacher as well as a Girl Scout Leader and a 4H Adult Leader. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 2003, her parents, grandson, Scott Runge. She is survived by her daughters: Cheryl Hendrickson of Mahnomen, and Collin of Perley, Karen (Randy) Runge of Alexandria; grandchildren: Marti (Ryan) Estey of Roseville, Greg Hendrickson of Perley, Laurie (Sam) Huber and DeAnn Runge, great granddaughters: Lauren and Taylor Huber, sister, Jeanette Chan, all of Alexandria. Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2008, 2:00 p.m. at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church with Father Noel Rich officiating. Pallbearers were Marti & Ryan Estey, Greg Hendrickson, Laurie & Sam Huber, DeAnn Runge. Burial will be Independent Bohemian Cemetery in Lake Mary Township. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
