Obituary for Elaine Wold Elaine Francis Wold went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Bethany Home in Alexandria, MN. She was born on Sept. 22, 1927 to Catherine and William Burke in Boston, MA. She attended Hyde Park High School and was a member of Mattapan Baptist Church. She worked at the American Meteorological Society and then at Great Indemnity Insurance Co. in Boston. In 1946 she met and married Norman Wold and moved to Boyd, MN. They spent the following 30 years in Clarkfield, MN where they raised three daughters. Elaine enjoyed cooking, baking, canning and acquired an extensive cookbook collection. Nobody went away hungry from her table. She loved working crossword puzzles and even won a cash prize in a statewide contest. She and Norman were lifetime supporters of Billy Graham and continued to watch his crusades on television for many years. After retirement, Norman and Elaine spent several winters in Mesa, AZ until her health restricted her from traveling. In 1981, she and Norman moved to their home on Lake Minnewaska where they lived for 20 years. While at the lake, Elaine enjoyed watching the birds and wildlife. It was a favorite destination for her children and grandchildren. In 2001, they built a home in Alexandria where she lived until she entered Bethany Home after breaking her leg in October 2010. Her husband, Norman was an excellent and devoted caretaker during her extended time of declining health. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Norman Wold of Alexandria; three daughters, Catherine (Thomas) Angus of Coon Rapids; Pamela Engebretson of St. Paul, and Christine (Daryl) Werneke of Eagan; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, March 31st at 10:00 A.M. at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with visitation on Wednesday, March 30th from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. and one hour prior to service on Thursday. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
