Elaine Janet Zimmerman age 88, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband Palmer, son Randy, sister, June Johnson, and two brothers; Leonard Anderson and Robert Anderson; step brother, Oscar Wussow.
Elaine was born on November 11th, 1928 to Richard and Jennie Anderson, (Skophammer) in Grano, North Dakota. Elaine's mother passed away when she was four years old, she was then raised by her Aunt and Uncle, Olga & Ferdinand Wussow, in rural Parkers Prairie.
Elaine was confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church in rural Parkers Prairie. She graduated from Parkers Prairie High School in 1947. She was united in marriage to Palmer Zimmerman on October 10th, 1948 at St. James Lutheran Church. Elaine and Palmer farmed in Leaf Valley Township for many years and then moved into Alexandria. Elaine and Palmer were married for 57 years and raised five children.
Elaine devoted her time and energy to raising and caring for her family. She was a skilled seamstress, crafter, and weaver. Whether Elaine was sewing her daughter's wedding dress or selecting colors for her next weaving project, the end results were always flawless. Elaine loved music and had a gift for playing the piano and organ and was the St. James Church organist for many years. Elaine enjoyed fishing and she and Palmer went on many memorable fishing trips. In later years she spent many hours working on puzzles and playing cards.
Elaine will be deeply missed by her children; Grant (Heidi) Zimmerman of San Dimas, CA, Judy (William) Klotz of Park Rapids, MN, Lori (Carl) Henning of Parkers Prairie, MN, and James (Pamela) Zimmerman of Alexandria, MN. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 15 great children (with two more on the way), and one brother, Wallace (Jerry) Wussow, of Parkers Prairie, MN.
Visitation will be at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, MN on Sunday, April 9th from 5:00 – 6:00 PM. Following the visitation, a funeral service officiated by Rev. Dennis Angland will held at the Anderson Funeral Chapel at 6:00 p.m. Interment will be at St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery on Monday, April 10th.
