Elda Evelyn Lindquist age 90 of Alexandria, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017. A funeral service will take place at Berea Lutheran Church in Alexandria at 11:00AM on Saturday, December 16, 2017. Visitation will take place two hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
Elda Evelyn (Freeberg) Lindquist entered this world on March 27, 1927, the daughter of Conrad and Myra (Cooper) Freeberg of Little Sauk, Minnesota. Elda was baptized at Little Sauk Lutheran Church and was confirmed at the Osakis Lutheran Church. Elda graduated from Osakis High School in 1945. On May 28, 1949, Elda married Donald Lindquist, her high school sweetheart. This union was blessed with five children, David, Daniel, Douglas, Debra and Denise.
Elda lived in International Falls, while Don served in the military, where she worked as a bank teller. Elda’s life was music. Playing the piano was her true passion and she enjoyed teaching and sharing this with everyone. She played piano for many choirs, events and services throughout her life. Elda encouraged and attempted to motivate everyone to go after their own dreams. Elda was very proud of her Swedish Heritage and she and her husband published a quarterly paper called “Swede Talk” for thirty years. She was involved in Bible Studies and volunteer organizations. She was a member of the Hӓrjedalen Forengen, Lions Club, music clubs, Project Literacy and many more. She had beautiful flower gardens and exhibited ribbon winning flowers at the local county fair. Elda’s grandchildren will deeply miss her stories, her musical talent and the time shared over decorating for Christmas.
Elda left us for her heavenly home on Sunday, December 10, 2017. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; son, Daniel Lindquist, one infant grandchild, two infant great-grandchildren; siblings, Myrtle Svitak and Art Freeberg. She is survived by her children, Dave (Roseann) Lindquist, Christine (Daniel) Lindquist, Doug Lindquist, Debra (Gary) Witkop and Denise (Jim) Larson; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; sisters: Marian Barr, Floy Meier and Vera Peterson; brother, Raymond Freeberg; many nieces, nephews and friends.
