Eleanor Peterson, age 89, of Alexandria, formerly of Morris, died Thursday, March 10, 2016. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM, Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Garfield. Interment will follow in the Mound Grove Cemetery at Evansville. Visitation will be from 12 Noon to 1 PM Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
OBITUARY
Eleanor Venetta Peterson was born September 20, 1926 in Evansville, MN, the daughter of Ernest and Gerda (Johnson) Peterson. She was baptized in November 1926 and confirmed in June 1940 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Evansville.
In 1941 Eleanor and her family moved to Otter Tail County. She graduated from high school at Fergus Falls, MN. She continued her education at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fergus Falls where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1946.
In 1948 Eleanor was employed as a Civil Service Operations Supervisor at the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris. During the school’s summer breaks Eleanor worked at various hospitals; St. Luke’s in Fergus Falls, three years at St. Ansgar in Moorhead, eight years at St. Francis in Breckenridge. She also worked five years at Breezy Shore Resort in Detroit Lakes. After thirty-eight years of service in Morris, Eleanor retired. She continued part time work as a merchandiser for American Card Company for eight years.
In 2001 Eleanor moved to Alexandria, MN to be closer to her family. She worked as a volunteer at Knute Nelson Historical Building. She enjoyed traveling, fishing and summers at Eagle Lake. Eleanor liked to garden and kept busy doing embroidery work on dish towels. Most of all Eleanor enjoyed the time she spent with her sister, Evelyn; they spent their whole lives together.
On Thursday, March 10, 2016 Eleanor died at the age of eighty-nine years. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Lillian Hallquist; brothers, Vernon Peterson and an infant brother; brother-in-law, Emmett Hallquist; and one grandniece, Bobbi Jo Peterson. Eleanor is survived by her sister, Evelyn Peterson of Alexandria; sister-in-law, Sandra Peterson of Alexandria; nephews, Harlan Hallquist and wife, Barb, Keith Hallquist and wife, Julie, Allan Peterson and wife, Naomi, Jeff Peterson and wife, Mary; niece, Brenda Peterson; and several grand nieces and nephews.
